AoE II trashed my folders in XP SP2

Hello,

I'm not sure how exactly to describe this problem; I was playing Age of
Empires II a few weeks ago and while we were playing my nephew got a
phone call so we paused the game and I minimized AoE and was in windows
doing other stuff (can't remember exactly what, but most likely I was
chatting in mIRC). Then, I went back into the game and finished it.
When I got back out, many/most of my desktop icons, as well as my
folder icons in Explorer were all.. 'blanks.'

Here is an image of part of explorer:

Also, if I try to double click in the right-hand pane of explorer to
open a folder, a 'Find' dialog comes up. I've tried to go into the
folder options stuff, but it won't let me fix it from there.

PLEASE HELP! :)

Thanks,
Scott F. ( beavis AT commanderbeavis.net )

Ok, I got the icons fixed by deleting that IconCache.db file in my
Documents and Settings directory, but I still can not figure out how to
get back to being able to open a folder in the right-hand pane of
Explorer by double-clicking on it. Currently, it simply brings up an
instance of Explorer with the Find stuff up and waiting for me.

Any help appreciated!

I just ran into a similar problem, and I can suggest a workaround, but an
official solution would be nice. What you can do is open up your Folder
Options and go to the File Associations tab. Then find "File Folder" on the
list of file types, select it, click Advanced, and set the default action to
OPEN. If OPEN isn't on the list of actions, add it -- the command is open,
the executable is explorer.exe. Then set that to be the default action, and
your folders will open when clicked (rather than searching.)

Drawback: the folders will always open in a separate window, no matter what
you tell Windows about that. That's the problem I'm working on now....

Open each folder in the same window:
