Anyone using Linksys BEFSX41 NAT VPN Router?

Hello all,

I have been trying to configure my DSL VPN Router for my
VPN without much success. I believe from what I am seeing
here that it is because of GRE but even Linksys help
support told me that all I needed to do was to forward
port 47 and when I did that, I still got no connection so
if there is anyone using this same router for VPN that
can be of help, could you let me no how you allow GRE
please.

In addition, I am able to connect to my VPN server from
my LAN PC, I see the connection in the Network
Connections and see that there are two connections on my
taskbar. Now the other question is, after connecting, how
do I get to the files that I want on the VPN server.
Should I have the folders shared and do I browse to it?

I am a real newbie and still trying to understand what I
am doing. But through my test, I only connect and I
wonder then what do I do.

Thanks

So after making a VPN connection, I still need another
software to be able to read and execute files on the VPN
server?

Still a newbie.

Thanks

Not really. When you have set up a VPN connection, you will have a
point-to-point IP connection to the VPN server. The client can see the
server and the server can see the client. But it is not the same thing as a
LAN connection. You do not automatically get name resolution and browsing,
because they depend on LAN broadcasts.

So being a newbie, I have made a VPN connection, how do I
get to the files on the server? I can see the connection
but I do not know what to do next to get the files to
work on.

Thanks again

The same way as you would over any network. If you have WINS or DNS
running, you can use computer names. If not, you will have to use HOSTS or
LMHOSTS files to get names translated to IP addresses.

When this works, you can see shares using "net view \\machinename" from
a command prompt. You can map shares using "net use \\machinename\filename"
..
