Phil,

Thank you for the information. So this file could be used by Office XP
for GUI purposes? The error I get generates more frequently when any
application within Office XP are used. I've completely ruled out hardware
and this computer is using the same image all my other computers (problem
only specific to this computer) and it has only the basic applications
installed. Should I call Microsoft to help me better troubleshoot this
problem?

Thank you

Yes, could be used by office programs. Before calling ms, I'd try this
first:
start, run, type in:
sfc /scannow
Hit enter, have xp cd handy.

This is the system file checker and should fix any system files that need
fixing.

That's comdlg32.dll (Windows Common Dialog Control) which also supports
the generic Windows Font and Colour selection dialogs.

comctl32.dll as described above supports the Windows Common Controls such
as toolbars, status bars, progress bars, Listviews (as used in the
right-hand pane of Explorer), treeviews (L/H pane) and a couple of others.

I think it's used in association with the comctl32.ocx file, but I'm not
sure that either of those are native to XP (which uses mscomctl32.ocx
nowadays).
The comctl versions were probably installed as support files with a
legacy program of some sort. - They're supplied with programs written in
Visual Basic 5 and probably other MS programming tools.

Nope. That would be COMDLG32.OCX.

comctl32.dll I beleive does status bars, toolbars, progree bars, treeveiws,
and tab strips AFAIK.

Chris.

Phil,

Well it looks like that worked. The problem has not resurfaced. Thanks
for your help with this.
