First the public beta installed fine, but I got my hands on the RTM
win64 from 2 different sources on 2 different brands of cd-r on 2
different cd burners however ever both copies complain about wrong
dbgeng.dll I skipped it to let the install continue but as I right
this the install is about done, so we will see what impact the
dbgeng.dll has, just wondering who else had this problem. I am using
AMD 64 3500+ winchester
Gigabyte K8ns 939 Nvidia 3 ultra
AGP 5900 xt geforce fx
Corsair Value Select Dual DDR 512 dimms x 4

Might one be so bold as to ask where one can get hold of such an RTM? I
would very much like one.

lt.binaries.warez.ibm-pc.ms-beta. You probably need a dedicated newsgroup
server.
IRC?
Kazza?

Thank you. Err ... I thought posters in this particular newsgroup shun
shady places like those (?). No offence meant.

The customer preview program for XP Pro64 rtm will be available soon, I
would recommend waiting for that...

Whats the point in installing the 64 bit OS? Is everyone playing and
just doing it because 'you can'?

Ash.

Thank you, I shall do that, and in the mean time I shall watch for more
comments on this newsgroup. Like I wrote in another thread, I shall be
visiting the United States in June, and hopefully, some form of a commercial
version would be available by then for me to buy.

To access the larger memory chunks. I have been using it for a few months
now on a tri-boot system and can attest to it's performance for most I have
thrown at it as compared to XP. The RTM is very similar to RC2, and so far
has been rock solid for me.

Na, no fun without a spaceship (or should that be mothership) ;) So, after
months of pleading with manufacturers to get 64bit drivers out, some of us
will be camping out sharing the experience with all the others at the
frontier. I'm either too boring or too sensible to jump 1st without good
reason ;)

I spend quite enough time maintaining my PC instead of productively using it
as it is without 64bit OSs lowering that ratio even more! I however do hope
that MS decision to not thunk the drivers from 32bit doesn't backfire. The
only application I use often that might benefit is PSP9. I contend the real
bottleneck is h/d access & is too often overlooked.

Have you found any printer drivers that work?
Thanks

Pity I can't include the appropriate mpeg file for that.

The computer has invariably become a part of our daily lives, whether it
be work, communication, or leisure - some to a greater degree than others. I
would venture to state that as far as posters in this newsgroup is
concerned, they are the former. Whenever something new is launched, be it
hard or software, there will always be some who would rush to jump onto the
band wagon to say that they have "done that, read the book, seen the movie,
and bought the T-shirt", while some may be a bit apprehensive about dishing
out hard-earned money just to have a different set of controls on their
desktops; then there are also those who will oppose the use of anything
which may be different to what they have been used to all these years. A few
here have written that XP x64 will not be available as a stand alone
product. If this is the case, then Microsoft must be getting ready to launch
their Longhorn, or even Blackcomb operating system: rumours have it that it
will be "sometime next year". My opinion is that one should give it a good
try, and see whether it would benefit for what ones uses the computer. If I
hadn't been willing to try out anything new, I would still be crawling along
with my Mac Classic today: after all it did do the things for which I use
the computer - at a greatly reduced speed of course. End of sermon.

I have used my networked multifunction device (HP2210) on my x64 XP. I have
not used itconnected directly to the machine, but have printed to it over
the network.

Indeed. I can remember being pissed of at not being able to buy a PCI
soundcard when I 1st bought a BX m/b & as for modems - still ISA. I leapt at
USB at the same time & was very impressed by the lack of problems. When
Ericsson launched Bluetooth with their T39 - I got one. However, I'm in no
hurry to retire my Athlon M-XP2500+ until next year when hopefully dual
processor CPUs have established themselves. By that point, drivers will
hopefully be less of an issue for 64bit Windows. I'm just choosy which
unknown I jump into. As for the availability of XP-x64, I don't think MS
will delay it that long, especially when drivers start appearing.

None taken, but you asked. Well generally yes. You can always clear your
consience and buy the product later. It's not avail to anyone but MSDN. I
have a legal copy of XP Pro so I'm hoping I can obtain XP64.
