: 1 IDE left is better than nothing. but if u need another IDE buy an
: IDE controller card.
: or for a cheap fix maybe an old ISA board with IDE/FLOPPY/Serial...
: from a 486 may do the job. I did to replace a non working serial
: port one pentium.
: of course u wont get UDMA and awsome speed transfert.

I am having issues with the Promise Controller Card right now, it's a
big risk buying a used one and seeing if it will work in my board.

Sounds like slipstreaming is a pain:

Thanks gentlemen!!! I followed your link ,then found
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sp2_slipstream.asp

and that one did it.
I had sp2 already, and only needed ISOBUSTER to
rip the boot info from XP CD, and after that it was
just follow each step to the letter, even though my
NERO version was a bit old.
Voila!!! I have XP PRO SP2 slipstreamed.
(and it boots too!!!).
Now... Wat to do with all those security updates?
At last count:78 (not counting IE7 and SP2)????

For many, the answer to that question will be
"Windows Vista". Count on Microsoft issuing *lots*
of WinXP updates for a while.

Oh come on. if you actually look at the Google results, none of the links
are relevant at all to me, and since no relevant results can be found, only
results having one of the search terms, like "Russell", are returned, having
nothing to do with me. Pathetic attempt at a jab, when the Folkert Rienstra
Google results were all relevant. I'm through replying to posts like these,
and will only reply to posts from others seeking help. here ya go, hon.

There are, with this link, actually quite a few relevant search returns,
with Fred in this very forum saying "****" a lot in the number one Google
result. You're in my kill file as well.

Yeah, I did it manually before I fell over autostreamer. Worked fine.

It is worth installing them, but not necessarily slipstreaming them.
The main reason to slipstream SP2 is so the XP install has 48 bit
LBA support right from the start. SP2 is safe enough for getting
the security updates online once you have XP installed.

um.. I'd use Opera and Eudora instead of IE and VirusExpress.

Don't these 2 sentences basically say the same thing?

Nope. Preference suggests that one is good but the other is better.
No such thing here.
Not being sure whether his controller card supports CS,

Name one that doesn't and isn't 10 years old.
it was suggested that he use the Master/Slave jumpering system,
as all IDE controller cards support that.

There is no support of the card, clueless.
Both schemes are jumpering on the drive, one by physical jumpers,
the other by jumpering through the cable.
The end position jumpers it as master, the middle position jumpers it as slave.
That's supposed to mean that many IDE controller cards do not support
ATAPI devices, like an optical drive, and are meant for IDE hard disks,
as mentioned in a previous post.

So you actually can write in understandable language if you want to.
Seems like Mr. or Ms. Rienstra just prefers to contribute bitterness to
the newsgroup, and doesn't actually want to help.

Actually I do help by pointing out the clueless.
The ones that think that their clueless ramblings are helpful.

Exactly. Has been doing that for a long time.

Recently he has started to fake posting by others, it seems
in an attempt to ignite a flame-war. He also frequently
posts under different names, in a pathetic attempt to be
listened to. Usually he is identified pretty fast.

Gosh, only a puny 1000.
Sounds like I'm quite well behaved compared too some of the yahoos below.
Already done....

Here's some instructions on slipstreaming in the updates..
