No evidence of that yet.

Its not trivial to do, but it is possible.

The hard part is finding someone who is capable of doing it.

and that would probly cost more than a new MB! its not 1965 anymore
these days we junk and buy a new one.

Nonsense. Either they support CS or they don't. There is no such
preference.
All that is needed is that the CS line is grounded at the MB connector.

Don't these 2 sentences basically say the same thing? Not being sure
whether his controller card supports CS, it was suggested that he use the
Master/Slave jumpering system, as all IDE controller cards support that.
Whatever that's supposed to mean.

That's supposed to mean that many IDE controller cards do not support ATAPI
devices, like an optical drive, and are meant for IDE hard disks, as
mentioned in a previous post. Seems like Mr. or Ms. Rienstra just prefers
to contribute bitterness to the newsgroup, and doesn't actually want to
help.

Wow, almost 1,100 relevant hits. Seems like F.R. has made a career out of
belittling others in public newsgroups and sponsored forums. I'd suggest
others add Folkert to their kill file, as I've just done.

Yeah, that's typical....the good people are the one's that always get

Take for example speeding. If I speed, I am always the one to have a

didn't get the guy behind or next to me who was also speeding?" The
response I got one time was "when you go fishing, you don't expect to

That's too funny...I remember that Pope thing way back when. Of course,

Exactly. Has been doing that for a long time.

Recently he has started to fake posting by others, it seems
in an attempt to ignite a flame-war. He also frequently
posts under different names, in a pathetic attempt to be
listened to. Usually he is identified pretty fast.

There's two quite different utes with those initials,
you appear to be talking about the Feature Tool.
Yup, tried that that too. I used this before to quiet

Thats Feature Tool, different animal entirely, Murph.

Not if you reef that cable off the drive by yanking on the ribbon itself.

Its not trivial to get a 40 pin connector off. You cant even easily cut all
the legs off and pull each pin out one by one like you can with a 40 pin ic.

You can do the equivalent tho,

R

Rod Speed

They cost peanuts, thats not the problem.

1 IDE left is better than nothing. but if u need another IDE buy an
IDE controller card.
or for a cheap fix maybe an old ISA board with IDE/FLOPPY/Serial...
from a 486 may do the job. I did to replace a non working serial
port one pentium.
of course u wont get UDMA and awsome speed transfert.

Now they come back and tell me that the MB is too old to repair after i
tell them the MB is about 2.5 years old. Hell, I wrote the model and
revision number to them initially, I guess they weren't paying
attention.
