Any Idea!!!

Hey Friends!
Before I was using Motorola Fax Modem in OS Win XP
professional, and now I have changed the modem with new
modem, before removing the Motorola Fax Modem I removed
the driver of Motorola and its other software. Now I
installed the new modem and driver, but when I start my
Windows on after logging in on the start one message is
coming like this "Motorola SM 56 PCI Modem,
Cannot register with SM 56 driver,
Press OK to exit"

Then I have to press ok to cancel this box.
Is there any help to remove this box?

How did you remove the old modem and driver? I am guessing
that you did not use device manager to remove the Motorola
modem?

The modem is not there and neither are all the drivers, but
the registry is looking for it. You'll need to either
reinstall the modem and then remove it properly or you'll
need to use regedit to find the line that is calling for the
Motorola modem.

I am not an expert at regedits and I hesitate to give any
instructions because if you misinterpret the actions I don't
want to be responsible.
Try look in the MSKB for step by step instructions.

I had that modem, as I recall it had a small program that ran and placed
itself next to the clock in the taskbar.
It was an icon of a yellow telephone.
Perhaps the program is still there and trying to communicate with driver,
but cannot.
Go to START then press RUN in there type MSCONFIG and press OK.
A window will open, go to the last tab that says STARTUP. Look there for an
entry that may have to do with the
modem... I think it was something like this SM56 (it has been a while so I
not sure), uncheck that and do a restart.
When restarted a pop up window will appear, check the box that says DO NOT
DISPLAY THIS MESSAGE AGAIN (or something like that). See if it is ok.

If this is not the case type the entries of the STARTUP tabs here and I will
try to tell you.

With this utlility you are in fact changing the registry. The MSKB is the
Microsoft Knowlage Base, and is
a part of the microsoft site that has problems and their solutions. This
problem will not be listed there.

possibilities

1 you have a connectoid with the motorola still set as
the default modem.

2 you have third party program in msconfig ,startup items
that is trying to connect at boot that is set to the
motorola modem as default.

for option number 2 check startup in msconfig .

and then remove any entries found referencing the modem.

preferably from their actual location as listed in
msconfig not just by unchecking in msconfig.

More than likely listed in MSCONFIG, as posted. Since the utility
can't find the modem, the yellow phone icon probably won't be shown,
but the reference will still be there in MSCONFIG.

Good Luck...
