Updated driver creating problems

Today, after automatic update of Windows XP Pro operating system, I also updated driver for my Motorola SpeakerPhone Modem. Consequent to this, the modem stopped functioning. Have now restored my PC to yesterday's settings.

Now, I wish to know whether the new update is automatically removed when the system is restored or do I have to manually remove it. If yes, how to go about removing?

Thank you.

Where did you get the update? As a general rule, driver updates should ONLY
be downloaded from the website of the manufacturer, not from Windows Update.
Go to the webpage for the modem and get whatever you need, including
technical advice, there.

Depends. You have two updates. A Windows update and a driver update.
The System Restore should put your machine back to the place it was at the time the restore was made. This includes the driver as well as the WIndows update.
Rolling back a driver update will only restore the last driver.

Thanks Billy and Jone.

First, I completed critical updates for Windows as recommended after scanning of my system. Then I went in for Modem Driver too, thinking that Microsoft is better judge of what we novice customers want!

When the problem arose, first I tried restoring the system, but it didn't solve modem problem. Then I rolled back Modem driver and that solved as far as modem working is concerned. Now, I want to remove the updated file wherever it is, so that in future it may not create any problem.

Thanks again

NEVER update your hardware drivers using MS Update.

I tend to agree with Plato's advice, but to answer your question, the
update file will most likely be left on your hard drive, but it will not
be installed. You can delete it if it is present on the hard drive.
