Antivirus software blocks internet connection

I have a dell laptop and desktop each running XP pro. Both go through a
linksys WRT54G; laptop is wireless (intel proset 2200BG) and desktop is
wired.

I have AVG as the virus scanner on both. When it is enabled, I can't
connect to the internet through the laptop, but I can with the desktop.
If I disable it on the laptop, the laptop connects to the net no
problem. I have had AVG as the AV for about two weeks and this just
started tonight.

To make things even more confusing, we have a similar scenario at work,
and my laptop works there with AVG enabled.

I can ping the other comps and access the router from the laptop, just
no internet.

Any thoughts appreciated.

If you connect the laptop directly to the LAN (router) with AVG enabled,
does it connect?

Did you fully uninstall the trial-version anti-virus application on the
laptop before installing AVG? What was it (e.g., NAV 2006)?

yes. Probably not a router issue. I connected to my neighbors WLAN just
to see if I could get internet access (which would let me know that the
problem was within my network and not with the ISP) but was unable to
do so.

and yes. I actually formatted and reinstalled XP about 3 months ago.
Also, I have had connectivity for for the last two or three weeks with
no problem and AVG was installed.

Thanks
