Antivirus programs keep crashing

Everytime I try to run an Antivirus program they keep crashing about 30 secs after starting them.I have tried several but most are free ones.I am running windows XP home edition.The antivirus programs i have ran found a virus but it crashes before i can do anything about it.All i saw with the virus was Win32.Any info will be greatly appreciated.

run an a/v scan in safe mode, you'll more than likely have a virus on your system that's playing with your av software, the virus is unlikely to run while in safemode, thus giving your av software the advantage!
