Anti-Virus Curiosity

Does SP2 come with Avast! AV, or does it default to
whichever AV the user has? I'm just curious. I already
had Avast, but I noticed that on my PCPitstop test
details page Avast! AV was listed twice, the one I had in
the "no info for this software" box and v4.21 in
the "required software" box. If Avast is included, then
kudos to MS for picking an AV with a 100% detection rate.
On a related note, I've only been using SP2 for less than
a day, but aleady I love it. The security items are
fantastic. While I haven't gotten incredibly in depth
with it, I'm quickly coming to the opinion that this dog
will hunt and needs to be released. V5 is far more
visually appealing and detailed than V4 and the 1-2
minute increase in loading the personal settings seems
reasonable for the added startup items. So far, SP2 gets
high marks from me, even if it did take 5 hours from
starting download to using Sp2 for the first time. It was
well worth the download/install/configure time.

SP2 does NOT come with any anti-virus or anti-spyware. This must be supplied
by third parties.

SP2 doesn't come with AV; MSFT is going into the AV business, but doesn't
have a product yet, and many of the AV vendors like Symantec are witholding
patches for their most widely sold AV products, hoping to cow you into
buying the new versions in order to avoid a few workarounds that are
necessary. Norton is a great example. They could have released patches for
all their products, but chose to release only a few and none currently
specifically designated for their most widely sold home and office products.

They have a sense of humor though. Their page on this advises you to hold
off installing SP2 until in the next few weeks they decide to release the
patches that they have. Reminds you a little of political election season
doesn't it?
