Anti Spyware setup error

When I try to install the latest version of Anti Spyware Beta, I get an
error. "Error reading setup initialization File" I have tried running the
app both from the Microsoft web site and also downloading the file and
running it locally.

Thanks,

Dan

Hello daniel_eller,

Clear temp files, and temporary internet files.
Empty your IE cache and your other temporary file folders, eg: c:\temp,
c:\windows\temp
or C:\Documents and Settings\<name>\Local Settings\Temp (the path to your
temp folder will change depending on your name) - sometimes programmes can be
hidden in there - watch out for mysterious *.exe files or *.dll files in
those fºlders.

One possibility is that the downloaded installer file is corrupt.

And then download a fresh copy
of the installer by following the download links from
http://www.microsoft.com/spyware/

Then try running the new installer.

Did you also clear the OS temp folder? One way to do this is with Disk
Cleanup--Start, all programs, accessories, system tools, disk cleanup.

Any chance of getting a copy of the download file via a different ISP--on a
CD from another machine, for example?

You are saving the file locally before running it? I know this seems inane,
since otherwise it is simply run from the TIF, but it seems to make a
difference.

Good luck

Are you attempting to run it on a Windows version other than Windows 2000 or
Windows XP?

Thanks,

I'll try the things you recommended.

I'll go with Engel's advice. Make sure that a fresh download is part of the
routine--didn't spot whether Engel listed that. (I know you've downloaded
at least twice already, but....)

Hi Dan, Is MSAS the only program you have had problems with or are there
other programs you have had problems with recently.
