Another installation is already in process

Update and new:

Whenever I click on a MS program to open/start it, I get an

error message that states "Another installation is already
in progress. Complete that installation and try again."
After that the 'start' stops and I get nothing.

IF HOWEVER I am starting some other program, that message
comes up, I click OK, and the program loads.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have Office 2000, try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Tip 4591 seems to be right on. I went into the Registry and
there is no Installer under Current Version. I did a search
under Current Version for InProgress and the only result
was RunInProgress under Explorer.
