Another IE6 memory leak causing IE crash

Hello,

Like so many other users, I observe my Internet Explorer memory usage
continues to increase over time. This is especially noticable on the ESPN
message board, which over time causes my IE to crash, displaying the illegal
operation/send error report message. I've used Spybot to search for any
Adware or hijackers that may be inflating my memory usage, but I come up
empty. I'm also running all of the latest security updates for XP SP2.

Anyway, apparently I'm not the only one who has this problem. Is there some
reason why Microsoft can't fix all of the memory holes in this stupid
browser?

What's the URL? Is the page using Flash or other plugin technology?

Eric, what is the "Internet Explorer Trust" and why do you post here using a
Hotmail address instead of a Microsoft address?

Internet Explorer Trust is the subteam in IE which owns security issues in
the browser. I post using Hotmail because I do accept replies, but want my
Hotmail spam filtering rules to apply. It's also the address I've used for
the past 8 or so years.

Thanks. I'm well aware of your posting history.

Your posts don't contain the "usual" MS avisos below the sig and most
Softies posting here use an @online.microsoft.com addy. The combination of
the two raised security issues for me.

"See" you in the chat next week.

Possibly. It's so hard to tell these days. Most commercial web sites hide a
lot of content using style sheets. They may be using Flash for their stupid
interactive ad banners at the top/side. I notice general browser inflation
with almost any web page I visit, the memory consumption just continues to
grow and grow. For example, after having IE open for a few hours, I went to
CNNSI.com. It was the only page I had open, and Task Manager reported the
usage as 88 Megabytes. I immediately closed IE, relaunched it, went back to
the same page, and my memory consumption was around 40 Megabytes. Now, after
going from there to the MS Support Site, my consumption is about 45
Megabytes, and it will undoubtedly grow. I've seen similar behavior before,
and again, I run Spybot and AVG virus scanner to check for malicious activity.

Can somebody fix a memory leak, or am I just going to have to switch to
Firefox?
