Annoying pop-ups from Messnger Service

D

Dave Denholm

For no apparent reason I am suddenly getting pop-
up ,essages that appear with a banner "Messenger Service"
inviting me to buy the software to stop these damn things
continually appearing!
I have complained to the Domain company responsible who
advised me to use Administartive Tools, Services,
Messenger and click 'Disable' on Start-up type and
click 'Stop' on Service Status.
However, this has had the unforeseen side effect of
stopping access to some of my often used Internet sites,
such as my bank.
I have used System Restore to go back to my old settings,
and all the old pop-ups. Has anyone got any suggestions
about how to stop these damn things.

Note:

You can disable the Messenger Service in Windows XP. However, when
you disable the messenger service, it is no longer available for receiving
legitimate messages, such as administrative alerts and notifications
from antivirus programs or firewall failures and others.

If you wish to solve your pop-up problems once and for
all, consider purchasing and installing a third-party program
designed to do just that:

-- Includes prevention of annoying web pop-ups
-- Includes Parental Controls
