For the Outbox, see http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/
Please read ALL of the instructions.

For the Inbox, the best thing to do is ignore them.

If you are not willing to just ignore them, the only way is to delete both
copies of the database (which does not contain the messages, but only
references to them) and let WinMail rebuild it.
First close WinMail, then use Task Manager to make sure there are no
instances of it under applications or processes.
Then click Start | Search | Advanced Search
Check the box to include non-indexed, hidden and system files.
In the Name field type WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and click the Search
button.
It should show you two copies. Delete both of them and re-open WinMail.
WinMail will work in the background and recover all of the messages that are
really there.

Although some people have said they lost all messages doing this, WinMail
should recover them in the Recovered Messages folders.

Gary,

For those of us who paid a S*** load of money for Vista Ultimate, a
replacement program is not a solutiion. We want the software we purchased to
acutally work!

I look at Windows Mail (and Outlook Express) as a free token email program
tossed in with the operating system. I paid for the OS, not WM.

If you don't like it, use something else. I use Thunderbird for my main
email program, using WM and WLM for testing purposes.

If you bought Outlook, and are having trouble with it, that's different.

That's a very good point.

Many companies and individuals will have a whole raft of products
that constitute their data processing infrastructure and central
to their business processes and thus are not interested in a lot
of money being invested in duplicate tools they'll never use.

For the home user there is a library of great free software so
in either case it doesn;'t make sense to include a state of the
art email function.

In fact MS are legally obliged NOT to create a seamless
fully functional computing environment.

Think of Windows Mail as a freebie thrown in with the OS.
As a freebie, your expectations can't be too high. Changes,
updates, and replacements are a fact of life in this business.
Demanding that Microsoft fix Windows Mail is not
going to get you anywhere.
Flexibility is the key to remaining productive.
