amd64 powernow driver-help!

I"ve just spent the last couple days researching why my athlon64 3200+ kept
registering that its speed was 997mhz-sometimes would jump around and up to
2mhz(what its supposed to be), then back down to 997mhz. rolled back driver-
at a constant 2mhz-go to amd.com look for lastest drivers-8/04.
installed-system back to 997mhz. come to find out this is amd's powernow
driver-only runs full speed when needed-like the idea, but for whatever
reason, system will not restart with this driver, which isnt a big deal to me
if its saving my proccessor life, but if it makes games run any slower-at-all
(meaning if extra steps are performed to switch back and forth, maybe
slowing), then I'd rather keep the old driver-anybody have knowledge about
this?

Here are some items you should check on your system:

1. Obtain the latest BIOS update (from the computer mainboard manufacture)

2. ImpoperJumper Settings on your mainboard - (pay special attention to your
CLOCK/FSB jumper settings if you have "over-clocked" your system - if you
have not "OC" your system - doubble check all of the jumpers for proper
settings just to be safe)

3, Courrpet Chipset Driver installation - Uninstall your chipset drivers and
let Windows Update install Windows Digitally Signed Chipset/Video/Soundcard
drivers for you.

thanks-being I'm a newbi-can you tell me what specific name do I look at in
device manager for "chipset/video/soundcard"?--you mean after uninstall,
instead of shutting off computer, go to windows update?
