All Programs?

Confused

Hi

I have recently obtained a new desktop machine which is used by all members
of my family, with separate logins/profiles. This is my first experience of
XP - up to now I'd been using Win98 SE.

I am the only user with Administrator privileges and I've been installing
the usual kinds of Software (Microsoft Office, Lavasoft, etc.) which then
appears on the All Programs tab for all users.

However, I recently installed Google Earth and find that although this
program is available to all users (if they know how to navigate My Computer
or Windows Explorer) it does NOT appear on the All Programs tab, except for
me.

My searches through the help files have not been very - well, what can I
say - 'helpful'. On 98 it was a piece of cake to Add/Remove programs from
the Taskbar menus but on XP I'm getting the feeling that it can only be done
by messing around with the registry, which is something that (in XP at
least) I'm very loth to do.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

The Start menu you see displayed is a combination of shortcuts
located in these two folders,

C:\Documents and Settings\(YOURACCOUNTNAME)\Start Menu
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

What you need to do is place a copy of the shortcuts for Google
Earth in the All Users\Start Menu folder. Here's how,

Right click on the Start button and select Open from the menu.
You should see the Start menu folder for your account,
something like this.

C:\Documents and Settings\(YOURACCOUNTNAME)\Start Menu

Open the Programs folder and navigate to where the folder for
Google Earth is located.
Right click on that folder and select Copy from the menu.
Next, right click on the Start button.
This time select Open All Users from the menu.
You should now see the Start menu folder for All Users.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu

Open the Programs folder and navigate to where you want to put
the Google Earth shortcuts.
Right click and select Paste from the menu.
Log off your account and log in as another user to verify that
Google Earth is now available on their start menu.

FYI, the shortcuts you see on your Desktop are a combination of
these two folders,

C:\Documents and Settings\(YOURACCOUNTNAME)\Desktop
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

The same principle applies here as it does to the Start menu.
If you want a desktop icon available to anyone who logs on to
the computer, place it in the All Users\Desktop folder.

Good luck
