All pictures save as untitled.bmp

P

Paul Pedersen

When I try to save pictures, they all get saved as "untitled.bmp" regardless
of their real name and type.

I have tried clearing out IE's temporary files, but even on the rare
occasions when that works, the problem returns within a day or two. I have
the cache set to 8GB, so that ought to be more than plenty.

Anyone know how to fix this problem and make it stay fixed?

Ramesh [MVP]

Setting the cache to 40MB or nearer should help.

You seem to already know the answer. Clear out TIF.
Have you tried using a smaller cache? Try using around 50Mb.
No idea if that will cure it, as I have never had the problem with a
60Mb cache, which is around the recommended size for normal browsing.

OK, I tried the suggestion, reduced my cache to 50 MB. It worked fine - for
four days! Now it's back to untitled.bmp again.

That's a bizarre one!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don't like Notepad much and rarely use it.
No shortcuts.

The first reference you listed suggested deleting "unknown" objects from
downloaded files. I found two of those and deleted them; we'll see what that
does. I also found TWO apparently identical copies of Java Runtime. I wonder
whether I should delete one of them?

This machine suffers from other problems too, in particular various errors -
several different types - on shutdown. Maybe I should just reinstall
Windows. Lot of work though. I don't want to wipe and reinstall everything,
because that would take a whole day at least.

Thanks again for your suggestions.
