After Install Repair - Application Problems

Yesterday I did an Install / Repair. After a few minor
problems it seemed to finish ok. Then the "fun" began.
My Norton Antivirus program in the systray wasn't their.
I couldn't reinstall the program or uninstall it,
although it says its their when you look at
Add/Remove... Also looks like SB Live, Word, and several
other apps are not accessible. But my biggest concern is
not being able to use Norton Antivirus. Any ideas?

Are the programs still visible in the Program Files tree ?

When you say not accessible, do you mean that they
fail to start when clicked or some other action such as
a privilege violation.
Using Windows Explorer navigate into Program Files
and check sub-folders like Norton Anti-Virus and the
Microsoft Office sub-folders to make sure all of the
content is still there.
Also check Documents and Settings 'YourLoginName'
and check Favorites and My Documents to see if your
personal data is still intact.

This sounds suspiciously like a "Fresh" install over an
existing instance of XP.

Thanks RMc, for the quick reply.

The programs are in the Program Files tree but they
either fail to start (like problem w/ 'Creative --> Sound
Blaster Live --> Creative Diagnostics', for example) or
look like they start but don't function (Norton
Antivirus), and like I said, Norton Av is no longer in
the systray or working. When I tried to remove Norton I
received 'Fatal error during installation', using add /
remove programs. When I tried to reinstall I
received 'The wizard was interrupted before Norton
Antivirus corporate edition could be completely
installed. Your system has not been modified...'.
Favorites and Documents / Settings are all still in
place. Symantec directory and MS Office directory, and
sub-folders, appear to be in place (don't know if I
mentioned I was having problems with Word spell check,
which is no longer available with my Outlook Express or
not). If problems persist, I may use System Tools -->
F.A.S.T., pull all setting and files to a spare hard
drive (except Norton AV and whatever else doesn't work),
do a fresh install this time, and bring all saved files
and setting back into fresh install. I did reinstall SP1
and all pertinent updates after the Install / repair. I
wish I could bill MS for my time.
