i have been working on trying to fix a bootup problem
on my comp. and run across the below items disabled in
the advanced system information:
upnphost svchost.ex e -k - local service disabled
ssdpsrv svchost.ex e -k - local service disabled
RemoteAcc ss svchost.ex e -k - netsvcs disabled
HidServ svhost.ex e -k d disabled

would one of you fine folks take a look at these and
tell me if one of them could be giving me problems , and
if so what i can do about them

i have just done a clean install of xp home.

thanks

Think the default settings for the first two of those are manual rather than
disabled

ie
upnphost = UNIVERSAL PLUG AND PLAY DEVICE HOST
(Provides support to host Universal Plug and Play devices)

&
ssdpsrv = SSDP DISCOVERY SERVICE

Could try setting each of those to manual rather than disabled
(via Administrative Tools > Services)

The other two are

RemoteAccess = ROUTING AND REMOTE ACCESS
(Offers routing services to businesses in local area and wide area network
environments)

& HidServ = HUMAN INTERFACE DEVICE ACCESS
(Enables generic input access to Human Interface Devices (HID), which
activates and maintains the use of predefined hot buttons on keyboards,
remote controls, and other multimedia devices. If this service is stopped,
hot buttons controlled by this service will no longer function. If this
service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to
start)

Would be better to post specific details of your particular boot up problem
though.

See Black Viper's page for description of XP's services and how to
configure them.

Changes to Functionality in Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2
Network Protection
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/sp2netwk.mspx

I have all four of those services disabled and no boot up problems but
of course it depends on your system configuration. The Black Viper page
is a good resource for this question.
