ADSL2+ Dialup/Connection problems

I am regularly disconnected from my ADSL2+ ISP two or three times shortly
after I first connect. To aggravate the problem, the Dial Up dialogue box
which saves my password and invites me to reconnect, shows my password as
being 16 characters instead of 8.
The disconnect problem seems to have started after I installed a 17 MB
Driver update for my RealTek audio in order to get my microphone working.
The dialogue box has always been like this, but infrequently used.
My ISP has checked my line and connection and can find no fault.
Any thoughts on how to rectify any of this? TIA,

Jim.

That's done so anyone looking over your shoulder won't see the actual
length of your password.

That suggests a driver, or registry entry was corrupted during the
Realtec driver update. Try removing, then reinstalling the isp and/or
modem driver software.

Thanks Joe, will try both of those suggestions in turn and see how it goes.

Jim.
