Administrator Error When in MSCONFIG Utility

I use Win XP Home, SP2 with all the critical updates current on a laptop
computer. My user account (the only account that is present on the system) is
an Administrator account. Lately, when I launch the MSCONFIG system
configuration utility to do a selective startup or a diagnostic startup, I
receive an error message that says "An access error message was returned
while trying to change a service. You may need to log on using an
Administrator account to make the specified changes."

How do I fix that, since I am using an Administrator account when I recieve
the error message?

open regedt32 to the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

For each key, click the Edit menu, then Permissions. Add your account.

Yes it does also happen in safe mode. I don't have Zone Alarm installed, but
I do have other security software installed - McAfee Virus Scan, McAfee
Firewall, and Windows popup stopper. I will disable all of them, and see if
there is a change. Thanks.

I checked both registry entries as you suggested, but the account is already
listed in both as an Administrator account with full permissions. Thanks.
