administrative privilges

My son has I Pod problems. In order to fix them Apple told me that I need to
set up administrative privilges. I have no clue how to do it.

are the problems, second, if not part of the first, how are they related to
Windows XP?

What is he trying to do, what problems does he have, what error messages is
he receiving if any, are the problems on Windows XP, which version, Home
Edition or Pro, any other pertinent information you might have.
