Address Book

I have used Outlook Express for years and finally decided to start using MS
Outlook as my email server, mainly because I have an IPaq that I use.

I have a good address book in Outlook Express on my old drive that I would
like to use because it has several folders. When I try to import, it puts
everything in the same folder.

I notice when I am in MS Outlook address book, I have a choice of using
Contacts or address book in Outlook Express.

How do I move the old Outlook Express address book on the old drive to the
new drive then point the address book in MS Outlook to the old Outlook
Express address book.
Detailed explanation would be appreciated

Thanks
George.

Outlook doesn't really have an address book. It has a Contacts folder (or
more than one, if you want to create them). Outlook's address book service
is a view of the contacts folders that shows all electronic addresses.

You must be using Outlook 2000 in Internet Mail Only mode. In this case,
you're using a cut-down Outlook that uses a lot of Outlook Express routines,
especially for address handling.
How do I move the old Outlook Express address book on the old drive

Outlook Express address book.

When you import OE's address book from Outlook, you get only the main
identity's top-most address folder. Subfolders are ignored. If you want to
reconstruct OE's structure in Outlook, you'll have to move addresses around
and import them from the main folder, then move them to other contact
folders in Outlook.

Thanks for the input. I do not understand using MS Outlook in "Internet Mail
Only mode". It appears to have all the features of MS Outlook, is there a
switch to toggle between the two?
From what I read about the "Show Names From " menu in the MS Outlook address
book I should be able to view the type of addresss books used in Outlook
Exoress.

Outlook 98 and 2000 came in three modes: No Mail, Internet Mail Only, and
Corporate/Workgroup. The second line of Help>About will tell you which mode
you're using. In the first mode, there were no mail transports. In the
second mode, Outlook could access IMAP or POP accounts (i.e., Internet
mail). In this mode, Outlook also used the Windows Address Book for its
mail addresses. The third mode supported Exchange and POP accounts and one
usually used the Outlook Contacts folder for addressing purposes. The
Windows Address Book could be configured to use the Outlook Contacts folder
for its addresses as well.

Yes. Tools>Options>Mail Services (or Mail Delivery)>Reconfigure Mail
Support.

I don't think so. The view you're describing seems to be the Outlook
Address Book service that references the Contacts folders and that won't
access the Windows Address Book.
