address bar - searches - cached

John

Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like
this.

If you type a letter into the address bar - you get all
sorts of archived information, including web addresses
visited, Favorites folders, some shortcuts (*.lnk and the
such). The information that pops up is not only web sites
visited.

I am unable to clear some of this information - I have
tried to clear all this stuff using the normal procedures
to 'clear history' and to delete 'temporary internet
files' and 'cookies' - I have even gone as far as to look
into the registry (using regedit) but am unable to find
where this stuff is cached. I have cleared the forms in
AutoComplete. I have cleared Recent Documents. I have
erased the usage tracks with Spybot. I've even run
Privacy Eraser Pro, but some info keeps showing up. If I
turn off AutoComplete nothing will show up, but that's
just a Band-Aid fix.

Does anyone have an idea what is happening here and how to
fix it??

Thanks.

Hi John - To delete Addresses in the Drop Down list, go here and download
and install Mike Burgess' DelTypedURL .inf:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/download.htm

You can also get DelSearchMRU.inf here also to eliminate the Search Drop
Down history.

Note: this does not remove entries entered via AutoComplete. To remove
hidden AutoComplete entries in History see:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm#How

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure that ALL instances of IE6 are CLOSED before you do
the install of this(these) .inf files.

A nice alternative just for selective or all Address (not Search) history
maintenance is EditURLs, here: http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/ Here also,
you must close all instances of IE6 for the deletions to "take".
Recommended.
