Address Bar Search (Think I've tried everything!)

About a week ago an unwanted search engine took over my
computer. I got rid of it using Adaware and by follow
other posts here. The problem is that now I have NO
search engine not matter what I try. The old one is
gone, now I just want to have one again. Here's what
I've done so far:

1. Got bad search engine
2. Got rid of all spyware using Adaware
3. No search engine, so I try...
4. Start...search...change preferances...change internet
search behavior...classic
5. Start...search...change preferances...change internet
search behavior...search companion

Any ideas? Change registry entry maybe? I'm stumped but
then again I'm a DOS baby and really don't like Windows.

(For XP) Line 229, left: "set IE search to default".

You might also want to look at the other fixes on the page, and
