Adding DVD burner?

Colin

I'm wondering if there is a inexensive pci controller I can get to run a dvd
burner? All my eide ports are full, a cd burner and a dvd drive also 2 hard
drives. I have no more ports and I'd like to use all my drives.

TIA

When I did the same I replaced one of my then current optical drives (in my
case the DVD ROM) with the DVD Burner. I could see no advantage to having
three optical drives.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping to save wear and tear on the burners
and use them just for burning and use the DVD drive for everything else.

sir,
u can add a dvd burner easily if u don't have any slots
empty for the dvd drive u can use a external drive
attached to the usb port and is u have a empty space for
the drive then attached it on the ide cable with a three
connector cable.
thanx

You can add a PCI IDE controller card, like a Promise Ultra133 TX2
(http://www.promise.com/product/product_detail_eng.asp?productId=87&familyId
=3).

(I have the older Ultra100 TX2.) It is usually recommended to keep the
removable drives on the mainboard's controller, and put the fixed hard
drives on the Promise card. I haven't experimented to see whether this is
really true. I have three removables (DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, and a Zip 100) plus
two HDs. Some of them have dedicated controller channels.

The card uses one IRQ.

I believe that this card is bundled with the larger Maxtor retail drive
packages. WD may still distribute the Ultra100 TX2 with their large IDE
drives.

HTH.
