Adding beveled edges to objects/text background boxes

Hi There:

I saw a PP presentation where the speaker had colored boxes that were
used as backgound for text. The boxes had nicely beveled edges and I
can't seem to find a way to do that. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

There are a few tricks to creating nice placeholders using multiple
autoshapes, set with custom transparency and stacked (I will add this to my
list of 'to do' tutorials). But most likely the ones you saw were created in
an outside image editor (eg. PhotoShop) and imported as images.

Hi Troy:

Thanks for your reply. I can actually copy this beveled box from the
other person's presentation and use it, as well as change the color
easily (just like any other element in PowerPoint). All of this made
me think it was actually created in PP itself.

Thanks again for the quick reply.

It might be a blank action button. (On the Drawing toolbar, choose
Autoshapes|Action Buttons.)

Hi Echo:

Thanks again for your help.

I tried what you suggested, and it actually comes up with a more
interesting beve. However, the one I was asking about clearly is a
text box that can be edited, not just a shape.

Thanks again for your ideas/time.

Ah, in that case, the author probably applied a 3D setting using the 3D tool
on the Drawing toolbar.

You can add text to the blank action buttons, though, so if you play with
those, they could indeed seem like textboxes with fills.

Try Autoshapes>Basic Shapes>Bevel. There's a shape in their with a beveled
frame. If you doing things like turning off the line, use the yellow handle
to adjust the bevel, etc. that'll give you the effect you're looking for.
