Adding AVI or MPEG to Powerpoint XP

T

Terry Duncan

I am having a very similar problem to the one asked earlier by C Smit using
video within PowerPoint XP and using Windows XP.

I can load the MPEG into the presentation and it plays showing a black
screen. I converted the file to AVI and it plays showing a white screen.

I followed the advice provided by Echo S and looked at the tutorial below,
but found that it
generally relates to Windows 98, ME and 2000. I found that some of the files
related in the tutorial must be different in XP and am reluctant to fool
with my system.

One item I found of interest is that if I play the presentation clip on a
Win98 machine with Office 2000 it works. Using Office 2000 on the WinXP
machine - it does not work. I am wondering if there is something going on
with the Windows Media player interface in XP..Any help would be more that
gratefully accepted - I have already pulled out most of the hair I have
left.

I'd start with the tutorial again, Terry. Look at section 3. The
screenshots there are how your registry keys should look for Windows XP.
Here's the link to it again.

The other possibility is that your files use nonstandard codecs. If the
Win98 machine has those codecs available, but the WinXP machine doesn't,
you could also see the kind of thing you're seeing.

Thanks Echo

I will take another look at everything - becoming a little frustrating, but
we will figure it out.
