Powerpoint 2003 video(Avi) problems

I am creating a presentation in Powerpoint 2003 on a Compaq nx9005
Laptop. I have inserted .avi files into slides but find that when these
slides are selected only the sound is played. The video does not show
on the screen. The .avi files that I have used play perfectly in
Windows Media Player. An identical presentation created in Powerpoint
2002 on another PC plays fine on the other PC but will not play on the
Compaq even though the video files are re-linked. I have placed the
videos in a folder directly on the main hard drive to shorten the
filepath but this has had no effect. Any suggestions please.

Hi

Just to double check - the videos and the powerpoint file are in the same
folder directly on the C drive and you re-inserted the videos but you are
still getting no image? If that's the case then the best place to start is
here:

Particularly the part about powerpoint not using Windows Media Player....

Lucy,
Thanks for the very prompt response. I tried the link that you posted
and read the variuos suggestions/tips there. I was unable to try to run
my files in MCI player as a standalone player as, following the route
suggested, the file still simply opened in Windows Media Player.
However reading the other suggestions I used a simple file converter to
change my .avi file to .wmv files. These now run successfully in
Powerpoint 2003 on the Compaq so problem solved.
Very many thanks,
Ardeebee

Glad to hear it's sorted :)
