adding a subkey to registry in W2K SP4

Yeah I know this ng is for xp but the question might be equally valid
for this newer OS...

I'm having some trouble adding a subkey to an existing key in my
registry using regedit.

As of now the key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers
shows only one subkey, the (default)

I need to add a subkey named VDD with a type of REG_MULTI_SZ and a
blank value.

I've tried selecting the key by
single-left-clicking/single-right-clicking/choosing New
--but--
this creates a new key -under- .......\VirtualDeviceDrivers NOT a
new subkey within
......\VirtualDeviceDrivers .

And even if I try to modify the new key I can't get it to take a type
of REG_MULTI_SZ .

So what's the trick?

TIA,

Steve

This is incorrect. The operation you attempt is different
on Win2000 PCs, hence posting in windows2000.general
is your best course of action.
