add Standard TCP/IP printer port

I am trying to add a printer to a notebook computer
running Windows XP Pro, using the "Add Standard TCP/IP
Printer Port" wizard. When I get to the panel which
requests the printer address, I enter the IP address of
the print server to which the printer is connected, and
the port name is automatically filled in. When I click
on "Next" I get the error message "Windows Explorer has
encountered an error and must close." The error details
say the error occurred in "msvcrt.dll." The wizard
terminates at this point.

The printer is an HP Laserjet 1012 connected to a D-Link
311U Wireless Print Server. I am following the
installation instructions from D-Link. D-Link support has
not been able to help. When I ping the Print Server IP
address from the XP notebook, it replies. A different
computer, running Windows 98, connects to the printer OK.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I am glad to report that I solved this problem myself,
thanks to other posts in this forum (see Canon Multipass &
Canon F30 posts). The solution was to COMPLETELY remove
all Canon Multipass & F30 software & hardware. Then
the "Add Standard TCP/IP printer port" wizard worked OK.
Then I re-installed the Canon F30 & Multipass software,
and the wireless connection to the HP printer still worked.
