add/remove windows componets

I am unable to use "add/remove Windows components"
Whenever I try I get the following error message:

Setup was unable to open information file au.inf.inf

The specific error code is 0x2 at line 2011777033.

Anyone know how to fix this?

The au.inf (an au.pnf) are used to install microsoft autoupdate service.
Go into explorer
select tools/folder options
Under the view tab click to check show hidden files and folders and uncheck
hide protected operating system files.
Click ok
go to the windows\inf directory.
rename the au.inf au.old, delete the au.pnf and copy the au.inf from a
known working system into the c:\windows\inf or simply go to the microsoft
update and it will prompt you to reinstall the autoupdater.
Of greater concern here is how did this file get corrupted? You may want to
checkdisk your drive.
