Add/Remove windows components

When I try to remove windows components logged on as an administrator, I get an error that windows cannot find a file needed for adding or removeing. When I try to point windows to the correct folder, windows refuses to copy the file. I've tried using my I386 folder which I copied to my hard drive and using the folder on my Windows CD. I haven't been able to find a solution to this problem.
