Add/Remove Software, other than through Control Panel ??

I have an hp OfficeJet v40 print/scan/fax that suddenly quit communicating with my computer. I got the message "...try removing and then installing again...", but when I go to the control panel I do not get the "Remove" button; instead I get a "click here for support information", which tells me how to contact HP (LOL) After 3 days of fruitless e-mail exchanges w/HP (last advice - create a new profile), can anyone tell me how to make Windows XP "lose" the apparently garbled hp software so I can re-install it?

Have you seen the Windows Installer Cleanup utility? Not sure if it applies
to what you're doing, but take a look here:
