Don't understand your problems with the PP, silj. I have been using it
since its' infancy with no problems. What were you false flags from?

Hi Loom!

I think you've been lucky, my Spyware buds state that of all the scanners out there
PP false-flags the most? I ran a trial of PP a good while back and it FF'ed some SpyBot
files? I had forgotten that any of you were still running commercial adware scanners :)

Very odd. I knew Adaware and Spybot had some differences, but, I have been
running all of them without a hiccup. As far as 'still running commercial
adware scanners'......I paid for it, by goodness, I am going to use it.
(bought it before I got the others) I run Adaware, Spybot, SpywareBlaster,
PestPatrol, ZAPro4, BHO Demon and have a 'double-throw down' HOSTS
file....everything is cooking right along.

I run Adaware, Spybot, SpywareBlaster,
Wall ? You've contructed a fortress ! What do you do to get Windows
Updates ?

Simply click on Start, Windows Update.lnk and I zip right over to the update
site.
It goes through the 'motions', tells me what is available and if I want
something, I kill Norton AV Auto Protect and get it. Simple. Never had a
conflict yet and not really sure of the necessity to kill Auto Protect, but,
do it as a safety measure.

That's great info, Herr Loom... I'll archive this to let users know what
spyware programs work with Win Up. There are mow than a few that
interfere with the process. Killing Norton is a good thing ... removing
from one's OS is the best. Just spent a week corresponding with a user
who couldn't install any software/updates because NSW killed Restore and
stuffed the Inf folder with the OEM*.inf 0 bytes issue. AND we had
disabled everything . I'll get you off that Norton crap yet !!!

Pest Patrol repeatedly crashed on me, repeatedly had to be reinstalled, and
eventually went, along with my money, in the trash can. Piece of crap, IMO,
although many use it with no problems.

Win2K, fully updated.

You will note that I said Norton AV, NOT Norton System (don't) Works. I
have seen way too many problems with that gem. I know there are those that
have issues with Norton AV, but, I am not one of them. It has saved my
biscuits many times. And the Pest Patrol, I use for an occasional scan,
but, leave the 'memory' checker running.....no probs. And the best part is,
I get regular auto SR points!!! yay.

Brother, you said a mouthful. I also use Norton AV (2003 at home, Corporate
Edition at work) and it is simply solid and dependable. It's installed in
the duh-fault mode and updated frequently and it just works.
