Thanks Silj;
Now that I've dropped Spybot I have to stay up on Ad-Aware. Interesting to note
that Ad-Aware is now also in the anti-virus business (Swen.A and Welchia)

Hi George,
I was just digging up the URL's since I too noticed the same!
Seems the A-V vendors are going after the Spyware market and vice-versa...

I was just looking down the list of applications that the latest virus kills,
and all of the AV apps are on there but Ad-Aware is not so it may actually work.

Um, well, hopefully the writers of the latest worms will read this, and fix their oversight on the next release of the worm. ;-)

Don't you mean "Will not read this"? BTW, where's my share from FN, you didn't give
it to PCR did you?

Jack of all trades, Master of none. One can never truly be a master as there is
always more to learn.

Um, well, hopefully the writers of the latest worms will read this, and fix their
oversight on the next release of the worm. ;-)

Thanks for the alert.

It is strange, but the update function of my Ad-Aware 6 tells me there is no
update (been that way since May). I downloaded and installed manually.

Anthony,

Check whether Ad-Aware is instead telling you that you need to upgrade the
application itself. I suspect you need to upgrade to and download version
6.181 (or greater).

You know what would almost be hilarious?

To receive a "patch" for a virus !!!!

I would cheerfully bet anyone that more than a few people
would actually install it.

I think they call those "variants"....or maybe "varmints" ;-)

We like to call them variants, prime example -
http://doxdesk.com/parasite/Xupiter.html
Variants: "BrowserWise" "2003" "Sqwire" "OrbitExplorer" et al.

Thank you both. I have Version 6 - 160. I'll try downloading a newer one,
especially since, now that I've updated the reference file manually, it is
telling me there is a newer one that actually is OLDER.

My apologies for having missed this thread.
The short answer is, if your version of Ad-aware is telling you
that no updates are available - then you need to fully update to
the latest version.
