You can get Ad-aware Pro on a black friday special for $9.95 instead of
$29.95. Should I do it? Is Ad-aware Pro worth $9.95?

If you don't have any real-time anti-spyware protection at present,
it's probably a good buy. Note that most of the free versions of
anti-spy/malware do not provide real-time protection.
Lavasoft have been around for a long time and I think Ad-aware has
always been in the 'top 10'.

I had various problems with Ad-Aware for a long time, but stuck with it
even though the company seemed reluctant to admit to and correct bugs.
The last straw was about a year ago when they came out with a new
version that, after installation, automatically scanned my system,
falsely identified some important program files as malware, and
permanently deleted them, all without asking my permission. Now I
wouldn't touch Ad-Aware with a ten-foot pole, for any price.

I've already got MSE. I had doubts about Ad-aware Pro. I think I'll stick
with MSE.

Same happened here also Nil. It was a real piss off if you know what I mean.Always
used Ad-Aware for years and then they did that with their knew version. Was ticked
off and I dropped them

Similar experience here. The last decent Ad-Aware I had was the
Anniversary Edition several years back.

Subsequent "upgrades" completely took away user control and also made
the text harder to read (going to smaller font, gray on white). I
listed these in my "Why I uninstalled" feedback. I tried Ad-Aware
again years later. They returned to a readable font (but not the bold
text on issues it had back in the day), but still did not give the user
control.
Obviously, I uninstalled again and no longer consider them a good
package. User Control is essential when dealing with removal of files.

I have found Malwarebytes will pick up just about anything on scans,
and Avast has about the best free real-time shields you can hope for.
Between the two, my system stays clean (knock on LCD).
