ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop.

I deleted all the contacts in the Outlook Contacts and now when I try to sync
my HTC it fails and give out the error message 'ActiveSync encountered a
problem on the desktop'. Office diagnostics hasn't been able to cure the
problem. Are my old, deleted, contacts somewhere I can retreive them?

If you haven't emptied it, they'll be in the Deleted Items folder. If you
have emptied it, then recover them from the most recent backup that you've
made.

I did as suggested and returned the contacts but on syncing still got the
'ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop'.
Can you suggest how to get the sync operation back?

Ps The 'link' the email sent me to notify me of a reply wouldn't work which
is why it's taken a while for me to reply.
