Before upgrading to Vista Ultimate from XP Pro I was able to convert the .pwi
files from my pocket pc to microsoft word but now that active sync has been
replaced by windows mobile device center that function seems to be lost. Is
there a solution?

Have you checked the HP website or with HP support for updated versions of
Pocket PC? Pocket PC 2002 and earlier are not compatible with Vista. If
PPC 2003 or later is not available for your model any longer, you may be
able to find a version compatible with your IPaq on Ebay.

Assuming your unit is using Pocket PC 2003 or later, you might want to check
the microsoft.public.pocketpc newsgroup. Be sure to give them the
manufacturer and model of your Pocket PC.

If your unit is using a version of Pocket PC earlier than PPC 2003, you will
need to check with the manufacturer for availability of a later version.

Desktop word will open pwi files without conversion. ( I believe since Word
2002 and later)
open word, click open navigate to your pocketpc sync folder, use the
pulldown file type to select all files, and click your pwi file. It should
open. you can then resave it to .doc format if you choose.
