Activation problem

In the process of upgrading form XPHome to XPPro on my
Sony Vaio FXA47, the install hung around the one minute
to go mark, during the cleaning up files portion. After
waiting about 30 mins for it to get going, I cycled the
power. When it booted up, XPPro got past the login and
then the following error message appeared:

A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking
the license for this computer. Error Code: 0x80004005.

When I hit the OK button, it logs off, saves the settings
and presents the log on screen again. I have found
similar error situations in the knowledge base. The text
of the error is identical but the error number is
different. The fix is a registry mod but the keys
described in the fix are not on my machine. Any
suggestions other than don't upgrade......

Hi Rich,

This problem is documented in the article below. The article
references your exact symptoms and the recovery steps do not discuss a
registry entry.

If this doesn't work boot into Safe Mode and clean boot the machine to
disable all 3rd party services and applications from starting at boot.
