Hi there,

Does anyone know whether the Product Activation that is currently required
for Access 2003 will expire at some point in the future?

I am sure I had heard someone at MS say that it might not be required once
the release was x years old, however I do not recall who said it.

I am concerned that if we need to support an Access 2003 system over the
next 10 or 15 years like we have for some Access 2/97 systems we may have to
Activate the product on many different development machines over time and
this may cause problems with the activation process.

....activation won't "expire" but product support will ...but as long as you
have your original licenses, you should be able to count on being able to
activate them.

No, perhaps I was not as clear as I meant to be.

Will the need to activate the product expire in x years time is the question
I am asking.

When Microsoft goes bust who will activate a new install of Access 2003 in
2018?

Once someone has installed Access 2003 16 times (once on each new machine
that they get) will they have a problem.

I wonder if anyone knows who at Microsoft said that the "need" to activate
older products may not be required.

I haven't been able to find anything that specifically says this about
Office, but the article at the following URL says this about Windows XP ...

<quote>
Microsoft will also support the activation of Windows XP throughout its life
and will likely provide an update that turns activation off at the end of
the product's lifecycle so users would no longer be required to activate the
product.

It would be nice if this applies to Office also, but I can't say for sure.
