Activated or not??

I've been running Vista perfectly happily since it was launched in January
(here in the UK).

Today it has started giving error messages: "Windows Aero not working. You
may be a victim of software counterfeiting. Go online and resolve now".

So I follow the link and it says my copy of Windows is not activated, and
then gives instructions on how to activate it:

Start | Computer | System Properties and then press 'Activate Now'.

So I follow the instructions but I can't press 'Activate Now' because it
says "Windows is activated".

In a nutshell, part of my system seems to think it is activated, the other
part doesn't.

I haven't altered anything that I'm aware of. Any thoughts on how I can get
the damn thing working again?

Thanks,

Steve

You can get started with phone activation by typing "slui.exe 4"
in the search field in the Start Menu and pressing Enter.
The phone activation process takes about 6 minutes.

Hooray! Thanks, Carey, it worked.

I still don't understand what put Vista into a twist, and the automated
activation process failed, but it put me through to a real human who read
out some numbers and now everything is fine again.

Thanks again,

Steve

Isn't there a way to bring a class action suit, with 100 thousand plaintiffs
in the class, against Microsh*t for fraudulently selling us crap that they
promised in 1995 would work and it still doesn't? There are probably a
thousand ways we have been damaged and lots of them cost us hundreds or
thousands of dollars due to no fault of our own, like having to buy upgrades
to software and hardware. I bought Vista because it was $50 less than XP
and just like paying royalties on 8 track, cassettes, LP's, DVD's for the
very same song, I have paid good cash for MS license that I have no CD for
or one CD that told me I have exceeded my install limit, etc.

The California mentality says sue 100 people for something and win a small
percent. Can't a million people sue MS and keep them in court and just keep
suing and suing and suing, etc. until the cows come home?If any other
business used the extortion and price control and market control, etc. the
ceo would be in prison.

What have you been drinking and where can I get some? Vista? 1995? $50 less
than XP?

Well he's saying that Windows still doesn't live up today to what was
promised in 1995. Since I can't recall what was promised by MS in 1995, I
am not about to comment on that one way or the other. =)

As far as the $50 less in XP, sure I can definitely see that. Stores are
likely to run specials on Vista while they probably *won't* run specials
on XP (if they even bother to sell it) in order to push Vista sales.

Which essentially means that the lower versions of Vista, can easily end
up being cheaper than XP Professional for example.

But...you also get what you pay..or in this case don't...pay for.
