Acronis compatibility

H

Herman

I recently purchased Acronis True Image Home version 10, which was
advertised as being compatibel with Windows Vista. However when I run the
Vista upgrade advisor it tells me that it is not compatble.
I have written to Acronis but have not received a reply. I am afraid that
the money spent on this software was therefor wasted. Your comments will be
appreciated.

The advisor is incorrect in it's assessment.
Acronis True Image Home 10 runs and works fine when installed in Vista.
Though it may not survive an upgrade from XP to Vista-- not sure about that,
if that is your intention.
If performing an upgrade, uninstall Acronis first (along with any other low
level utilities such as AntiVirus, malware scanners, defraggers, etc), then
re-install once Vista is in place and working.

Herman;

I run Acronis True Image Workstation® version 9.1 (build 3,832) on Vista RTM
without problems – and yes, it runs highly reliable; so v10 shouldn’t be any
problem at all.

The Vista Upgrade Advisor is known to be way out of date and to favour
software “approved†by Microsoft. Don’t trust the advisor – just try and see
how it goes.

HOWEVER: if you are upgrading from XP to Vista, a lot of programs will NOT
work or survive the upgrade, Aconis being one of them. I strongly suggest you
either do a clean install of Vista, or prior to upgrading, uninstall all 3rd
party software down to the bare-bones XP setup and then re-install any 3rd
party software after hopefully successfully upgrading to Vista.

Going by previous MS upgrade routines, i.e. Win 98 to Win2000, or Win 98 to
XP, they very rarely go smoothly and almost always leave loads of rubbish
behind in the registry, creating sluggish system performance with troubles to
come rather sooner than later.

Upgrading a Microsoft OS – IMHO – is asking for more trouble than it’s worth
the effort!

Herman,

01/25/2007 you made the below Post:program, I have noticed that the pop -up blocker does not work properly,
with the setting in IE-7 even at the highest level.
Before Live One Care I used the Norton 2006 firewall, which has a built in
pop-up blocking facility and which does a real good job. Apparantly this is
not the case with the XP firewall which Live One Care is using.
Any suggestions?†<<

Today, or currently, if you are running several applications as Acronis, the
“Advisor†is 100% Correct with its evaluation; you will not and can not
install Acronis.

The participants within these Forums are volunteers, not employees of
Microsoft, with very few exceptions, and frequently they do not openly share
they are employees of Microsoft.

The best method for self-determining who is and who is not Microsoft
employees, simply, the dogmatic and obnoxious Posters are *not* employed by
Microsoft.

Suggestion, within this Forum “Windows Vista General Discussion†perform a
word Search for “Acronis†for learning the numbers of users currently
experiencing conflicts using Acronis, and why. Also, avoid suggestions from
dogmatic obnoxious Posters!

Oh so wrong!! "Today, or currently," on a properly isntalled Vista RTM
system (mine is Ultimate) the latest Acronis True Image software runs like a
charm.

Actually, why don't you try it one day - it's soooo much better that that
Vista or OneCare included backup puppy!

Read the thread entitled "Acronis -backup or clone disk". In the message:
it is mentioned by Richard Urban that while v9 appears to work perfectly
well, you cannot actually restore OS partition backups with it.

Have you actually tried to do a restore with the images
created by 9.1? You need to make sure. It is better to
find this out now, than wait until disaster strikes.

I know that version 10 works great, I've tested the restore
function. As far as I know, version 10 is the first that is
officially compatible with Vista.

ozziaj,

Are you simultaneously running two, three versions of software as Acronis?

One version of Acronis (only one version) does indeed have the ability for
running inside Vista provided that the user is not –simultaneously- running
two or three versions of similar third party applications.

Previously, Herman Posted (by name) that he was running more than one
version similar third party applications.

By design, Vista will not tolerate running two or three versions of similar
third party applications.

Wow, you are really one ignorant dingleberry.

The advisor is not always correct.

Thank you guys for your quick but varying responses. I will switch to VISA
within a week, and tell you shortly if and how it works. I feel a bit more
confident now.
PS: I only run one third party program with Visa.

TI Workstation 9.1 is known to have problems restoring an image of the
system partition that was created from within Windows. If you boot to the
Acronis recovery CD and create and restore images there it works fine with
Vista.

I agree, but with multiple responses you will in the end get a very good
idea, of what can and cannot be achieved.

Yes, you are indeed correct: Under Vista, multiple Acronis applications do
not run in tandem. And why would one, anyway?

Yes, running similar versions of software simultaneously is NOT a good idea
(whether Vista or XP)!

Thanks for pointing this out in this thread.

Herman

I have received confirmation from Acronis that True Image 10 is fully
compatible with Vista.
