Hi Ian,

You would need to do a repair installation, and no, you cannot save the
Windows Update files, you will need to redownload and reinstall them. Follow
directions here:

Is it possible to change from normal hal.dll to ACPI hal without doing a
reinstall ?
At present my PC is 'Standard PC' and I do not have the option of changing
to ACPI in device manager!
I also do not have the APM tab in Power Options !

I'm running XP pro on a Nforce2 mobo which is ACPI compliant.

If I do need to reinstall over my existing, is there a way of saving my
Windows updates ?

Thanks for the response Rick !

I think I'll leave it as is for now, or until I end up being forced into a
reinstall !
The only slight niggle I have at present is having to manually power off !!
