Someone posted help on how to get rid of "Nakido" dialer from Firegraphics,
but I cannot find this post looking through the thread.
Can whoever it was repost please, I've got the problem and want to get rid.
thanks dfrog

*In the Windows Explorer, do a search on "nakido", and delete all instances.
*In Regedit, do a search on "nakido" and delete all keys and values found.

Weird. Nothing at all. No EXE, no registry entry.
Maybe Spybot or Ad-Aware neutered it.

I've just finished an install. Procedure I used ...

1. Told TUN to take a "before" snapshot.
2. Ran the installer (a nasty MSI + InstallShield pairing).

3. Nakido.exe immediately phoned home. Told Kerio to block it.
4. Pulled out Process Viewer and killed the Nakido process.

5. Told TUN to take an "after" snapshot.
6. Had TUN remove all the added registry entries (there was a bunch of MSI
krap etc). And remove the added files spewed around on drive C.
(Preserved only the local folder for the program, nothing else.

7. Took another "before" snapshot.
8. Launched the program.
9. Disabled shell integration via its menu (Tools>Options>System).
10. Took an "after" snapshot.
11. Saved that record. For uninstall, I will need to only to delete the
Firegraphic folder and delete its HKCU regkey
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Firegraphic.com]

.. . . .

So, yes, as has been pointed out, the nasties can be stripped off.

However, the whole Nakido business makes it sound to me that it is surely
mal/spyware as far as how we defined that: the program's _intention_ (user
workarounds aside).

Very nice!

Bob must have had a "hired gun" that took care of the intruder
seamlessly.

True, and it's too bad quality programs resort to such. It really is.

I may have spoke too soon. One function that I definitely need is the
ability to drag-copy/move graphics from the thumb display to other
folders. When I do this a drop down appears and there IS in fact a
"Copy to folder" choice there. But when I click on it, a window with a
time bar pops up saying copying, but it never finishes and I have to
click on cancel in order to get back.

The author's website is down and so I guess I have to toss this one
down the toilet too.

What a shame. Otherwise this is as good a program as ACDsee.

WOW! Xnview is perfect! Thanks.

I'm not complaining that Nakido is gone, but I would like to know what
zapped it. :)

Sorta like when the US prez's get their Secret Service team protecting em.
Seems to be a good deal (what I decided after educateeen myself by watching
movies, like when Clint Eastwood starred as one of those agents)...

Any chance Nakido is a *new* addition to Firegraphic that you didn't
have it in your version?

How long ago was your download? Perhaps the malware bundling was a later
addition. (Google groups search doesn't turn up prior result for "nakido."
The couple messages that come from a search on "firegraphic and spyware,"
those are Jan 2004 and March 2004.)

What kind of anti ad/spyware stuff are you running?

No adware, cdware, commercial software, crippleware, demoware,
nagware, shareware, spyware, time-limited software, trialware, viruses
or warez please.

Because Andy Mabbett is stalking me in this group, I have him killfiled.

thanks for that, but, these are email addresses. When I select one, my email
client starts an email to that address??

Does OE not have settings available to tell it to interpret as MID
(message-id) instead of email address?

If not, there was a workaround proposed, about a month ago, by Bjorn S.
See if these works for you:

<<<
If it does work, then for future: you could hit reply on posts which hotlink
to recent articles by MID, then insert the extra characters, then discard
your reply window when done. Unless someone familiar with OE has a more
efficient approach...

I have the latest, as always.

I'll re-down load it and re-install it just to satisfy my curiosity.

The usual SpyBot, Ad-Aware, and Spyware Blaster, plus WinPatrol to watch my
startup processes and hosts file.

Woa! Good call Omega!

Currentversion is 6.0.619, which was a "silent update". Mine was 6.0.618,
still fairly new.

Killed Nakido, no problem. Still my favorite picture viewer. I'll not give
it up because of an annoyance. Heck EVERY software has annoyances, even $600
shrink wrap apps.

Hi

I love and use XnView (on Windows, Linux and Pocket PC!).

I too, need to be able to move/copy thumbnails to other folders, but I've
never had a problem doing that.

Wait a sec and I'll try it right now. . .

Hey, it worked again. I didn't get a menu popping up or anything, the file
was just moved like in Explorer. The "copy to folder" menu option also
worked fine.

I did these tests in WinXP Home, using XnView c.1.74.

So please don't give up so soon on XnView. I've found it a great
alternative to my old ThumbsUp software, and haven't had any problems with
it over the last couple of years.

Tell me how you killed Nakido please Bob.
I failed to and so had to resort to a 'System Restore'

Just a guess, but the most likely candidates are WinPatrol or Spyware
Blaster, especially the latter: "Prevent spyware from installing in
the first place!"
