ACCESSING SECURE SITES

Help!
I am running a dual boot system with Win 2000 and Linux ,
with an NTL broadband web connection. I have three
problems which might be related, or not.
1)I have three browsers installed in Windows; Explorer,
Opera, and Firefox. Recently I found that none of these
would allow me to access secure sites. With Mozilla in the
Linux OS I have no such problem. This seems to point to a
problem with Win2K.
2) when I try to access Microsoft update I get an error
message (0x800C0005), and can't proceed.
3)I have tried to re-install Win2K but get the
message, 'there are incomplete program
installations;installation cannot proceed', but the
program that is supposed to run on re-boot to solve the
problem doesn't run.
Symantec AV gives a clear bill of health.
Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem on a Win XP system. Netscape can access secure sites (carts, logins and so on) but IE6 cannot. I have tried everything to fix. I have lowered security settings, reset them, trtied to update IE (same problem happens as described in this post.) In fact I cannot access Windows update at all so I cannot even update anything in XP much less get IE6 to work right. My concern is that I dervelop web pages and I need to have fully functional browsers in several flavors in order to test and so on. All the other machines on my home network (running on a DSL internet connection) run fine with IE6 so it is only my work XP machine that is affected

.
I've had the same problems. Did you get any helpful
tips? I've tried all the solutions from the web page for
tech support and nothing has cured these problems.
