accessing https sites

All of a sudden, I am unable to access any secure websites (https sites). I have had a computer consultant look at my home PC, the folks at Verizon DSL on the phone and the IT folks at work all try to diagnose the problem but everyone has failed. I am at a loss as to why this is happening. My PC has Windows ME. I was using SystemWorks 2004 for security but I disabled that and I still can't access https sites. Does anyone have the answer to this one ? I'm thinking of upgrading to Windows XP (Professional). Do you think that might fix it ?

Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.
