Accessing HTTP servers Error Message

K

Kishan Advani

Here is the exact text of the error message that I get
from FP2000 on my XP computer.

"Accessing HTTP servers requires 32-bit TCP/IP networking
which is not installed, or may be misconfigured. Would
you like help on how to install it?"

Windows XP is all 32-bit and I assume the currently
installed and working TCP/IP networking is 32-bit too.

I've tried to search support.microsoft.com and several
user forums on Windows XP and FrontPage. The only
relevant page I have been able to find so far is located
at

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/q
179/2/67.asp&NoWebContent=1

Unfortunately, this too deals with FP97: 32-bit TCP/IP
Missing Error after Installing Winsock 2.0 on Windows 98
etc. so I am hesitant to try that process for the fear of
corrupting my Windows XP too.

I've tried re-installing FrontPage 2000 and TCP/IP
networking is behaving fine with all other applications
except the FP2000

Grateful for any help/suggestions with resolving this
problem or where else can I look for additional help.

Thanks.

FrontPage inherits Internet settings from Internet Explorer.

Try this: Close FrontPage, Close Internet Explorer.
Right click the IE icon on the desktop, click the Programs tab, click Reset
Web Settings, uncheck Reset My Home page on the next pop up and then click
OK.
Then, click the advanced tab, and click Restore Defaults. Click OK.
Reopen the browser to effect the new settings and then Open FrontPage.

Thank you HTH for your reply.

I already resolved this problem on March 22 by deleting
a number of unnecessary programs including a MacAfee
firewall. Incidentally I had MacAfee firewall on my
system for past several months and FP200 was working
fine. This problem had started only about a couple of
weeks ago. Although I am not 100% sure whether the
MacAfee Firewall was the real culprit but if nothing else
suceeds it is good idea to remove the Firewall before
doing anything removing other programs. Earlier disabling
Firewall had not worked. I'll re-install Firewall again
to see if I can replicate the problem.
